Alan Smith MkII: Hey Mikie - those long boxes, great lookin’ pieces man! Never saw ‘em down here (I was living in a less cosmopolitan part of Oz at the time)! Nov 6, 2018 7:38:47 GMT
Vale: How the hell you guys open a long box? Years ago I had one (Lost & Found) and I destroyed it to pull out the cd!! :D Nov 6, 2018 10:00:34 GMT
Surflower: Alan, I listen using my PC through an external speaker. Nov 6, 2018 11:41:31 GMT
Mikie: I knew I might keep the boxes, so I opened them carefully on the CD end. I think Capitol did the box as a marketing tool to promote the CD in record stores. From the outside, it looked like you were getting more than the CD. Nov 6, 2018 16:45:16 GMT
Mikie: In the CD bins, they stuck up where you could easily see them. I think it also helped to prevent easy theft. It cost Capitol more money to make, but I think with all the artwork/album covers on the boxes it was a good investment for them. Nov 6, 2018 16:51:10 GMT
Vale: I remember it was all sealed, the cardboard was without openings! Thanks Mikie Nov 6, 2018 16:51:54 GMT
Will/feelsflow: Some Cd longboxes came with openable flaps. The first Cd version of The Beatles White album came as two single cases, and opened from the bottom and the top. My take on why they did the longbox was so they would fit next to your Lps. I was looking Nov 9, 2018 23:36:26 GMT
Will/feelsflow: at mine the other night in anticipation of the newest version of The White. Mine came this afternoon. This is in a clear slipcase with B&W photos of the four pictures which comes off to reveal the white book style box. The demo disc is up first tonight. Nov 9, 2018 23:40:03 GMT
Alan Smith MkII: So tempted, Will. Enjoy that demo disc, man! Nov 10, 2018 0:29:58 GMT
jay: The outtake discs are amazing. This smokes the Pepper box set. Nov 10, 2018 9:18:27 GMT
Watamushi(Polly Poller): Yeah, and there are some great new mixes too, notably Savoy Truffle. Nov 10, 2018 10:37:45 GMT
filledeplage: Happy Birthday to dogear! woot Nov 10, 2018 17:56:55 GMT
Will/feelsflow: The Esher demo disc was even better than I thought it would be. Loved those extra Harrison songs that didn't make the album, especially "Circles" and "Not Guilty". Then I played the Blu-ray: "Mind Blown"! This tells me more of their albums Nov 11, 2018 20:23:28 GMT
Will/feelsflow: should be released in surround. Giles needs to go back and do Rubber Soul and Revolver before going forward. Nov 11, 2018 20:24:36 GMT
jay: I can't for the life of me figure out why Rubber Soul and Revolver didn't get 50th box sets. Revolver at the very least deserved one. Nov 12, 2018 3:34:57 GMT
sockit: Both of those desperately need fresh stereo mixes Nov 12, 2018 4:10:36 GMT
Watamushi(Polly Poller): Alan Boyd showed up on Discord server, saying he's working on 1968 digital comp, which is, according to him, due to be released sometime mid to late December. Nov 12, 2018 4:16:48 GMT
Watamushi(Polly Poller): Here's what he said: "Lots of interesting tracks and fragments from the FRIENDS and 20/20 sessions. New track and a cappella mixes too, alternate versions and a batch of concert tapes from the 1968 summer tour." Nov 12, 2018 4:17:29 GMT
Watamushi(Polly Poller): And on the rumored All I Want to Do alt. take: "Yes! And they sound great. Got a couple of takes. Sounds very punk rock." Nov 12, 2018 4:18:17 GMT
filledeplage: mikesbeard - Happy Birthday! woot Nov 12, 2018 14:31:08 GMT
